Marc van Iersel and the PodPonics group admire the poinsettias grown by Paul Thomas’ students.

A group of people from PodPonics visited the Horticultural Physiology Lab on November 19. PodPonics has developed an innovative approach to growing crops inside used shipping containers, using LED lights. As part of developing this farming approach, PodPonics has developed a lot of new technology. Paul Thomas and Marc van Iersel hosted the group and discussed opportunities for the use of better environmental control systems in teaching, research, and production greenhouses. The future of LED lighting for crop production was discussed as well. We are looking forward to returning the favor and visiting PodPonics in Atlanta to see their recently expanded facilities and hope that this will result in a mutually beneficial collaboration.
