Following the joint meeting of AERGC and NCERA-101, Shuyang Zhen and Marc van Iersel also attended Cultivate ’15, the largest horticultural trade show in North America. In addition to a very large tradeshow, Cultivate ’15 also had education sessions. Marc van Iersel contributed to the educational sessions in a joint presentation with Charles Bauer (from Flowers by Bauers, in Maryland). They discussed the practical implications of using wireless sensor networks and soil moisture sensors to improve irrigation management in the production of ornamental plants. The presentation was titled ‘Precision irrigation technology. Real-world application’ and dicussed results from the SCRI-MINDS project. See www.smart-farms.net for details on that project.
